The International Tennis Hall of Fame is bridging court and coast for The Tennis Wave, presented by 11th Hour Racing, to officially kick off the 2026 Induction Celebration week.
As the opening festival for the celebrations, the ITHF is bringing the game directly into the heart of the local community. The Tennis Wave transforms one of Newport’s most vibrant harborside destinations, Bowen’s Wharf, into an interactive tennis haven. Whether you are a lifelong fan, an aspiring young player, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out with the family, this free public event is for you.
What to Expect on the Wharf
The Tennis Wave is all about high-energy, accessible fun. Attendees can step up to the court right by the waterfront for clinics and open play led by experienced pros from the Hall of Fame Tennis Club. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up a racquet for the first time, fine-tune your volley, or introduce kids to the fundamentals of the sport in an inviting, upbeat environment. Join a USTA Red Ball clinic to pick up the basics, wield a wooden racquet for the first time (or the first time in a while) or see how you perform with a giant racquet.
Meet Francesca Clapcich from the 11th Hour Racing Team!
On Monday, August 24, fans can meet and hit the court with professional sailor Francesca Clapcich, backed by title sponsor 11th Hour Racing. Clapcich is a two-time Olympian and the first Italian to win The Ocean Race, claiming victory with 11th Hour Racing Team in 2023. In 2025, she finished second in the Transat Café L’OR with co-skipper Will Harris, delivering the best IMOCA Class result for a woman in 20 years.
